After seeing so many television commercials and hearing the stories of friends tracing their family roots, I decided to study my own. In my middle-class neighborhood, located in northern New Jersey, my heritage seemed rather bland: British Isles on both sides of my parentage — English, Welsh, and Irish — and not even a single ancestor on the European continent itself!
Nevertheless, it was a legacy, and I decided to study some of the traditions of my forefathers and incorporate them into my daily life. Hence, my recent observance of Boxing Day.
