The shooting of the 37 year old Minneapolis woman, Renee Nicole Good, by an ICE agent yesterday is absolutely appalling. I imagine most of you have seen the video of the incident. Of course there will be an investigation, but it’s clear to my eyes that she was not at fault. What can be seen in the videos is that Good was veering her car away from the agents, trying to escape because they were threatening to her. The ICE agent drew his gun simultaneously and shot her, at point blank. He was not injured at all and walked away from the incident. Nonetheless, Trump blames the victim for “behaving badly,” and says that she ran over the ICE agent with her car, that he was acting in self-defense. He called her a “domestic terrorist.” Director of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has said much the same. This is incredibly outrageous. Not only is the murder tragic, but the blatant lying from Trump is mind boggling. I sometimes just cannot believe what I hear, even after all these years of Trump. He is demanding we believe his words, and not our eyes. Much like Jan 6th. Now state officials in Minneapolis say that the FBI is freezing them out of the investigation. The FBI is taking full control. Because of the federal move, “it feels very, very difficult that we will get a fair outcome,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said. “And I say that only because people in positions of power have already passed judgment,” he added. I’m finding it difficult to believe this will stand, but I can’t find any information as to what is legal here, who has the right to take control of the investigation. If the FBI takes control of the investigation, perhaps after the investigation is concluded Minnesota officials will have access to the it. Another important story: In a rebuke to the president, the Senate narrowly agreed to bring up a War Powers Act resolution for a vote next week. Five Republicans voted aganst Trump: Rand Paul, Lisa Murkowsky, Josh Hawley, Susan Collins and Todd Young. Trumo attacked them saying “they should never be elected again.” The measure would require Trump to seek congressional authorization for military operations in Venezuela. The vote is really only symbolic because the house will most likely not pass it and then trump would veto it even if they did. But it shows concern in the Republican Party for the president’s recent aggressive actions in Venezuela without consulting the legislative branch. Trump has been critical of the war powers act saying it limits his actions as commander in chief. Supporters of the act say that only congress can declare war. Below is the recording of my live drawing of her just now. Let’s hope for justice, and an end to this brutality. Thanks for being here, see you tomorrow.
