He didn’t pause. He didn’t express sympathy. He didn’t acknowledge a grieving family. He told the country that Americans should be grateful.

When one of the most powerful officials in the United States publicly minimizes the death of a civilian and praises the agent who killed her, it sends a chilling message: some lives are disposable, and accountability is optional. Renee’s family had not even begun to process their loss before her name was turned into a political talking point.

Renee was a real person. She was loved. She was a mother. Her family is now navigating trauma that will never fully fade — compounded by hearing the Vice President of the United States dismiss their pain on national television.
