Hello, Springfield District,

I am following up on the proposed boundary changes following our two public hearings, and after hearing some concerns about comments I made during both the recent regular meeting and work session.

In those meetings, I noted that there was no clear path forward to relieve overcrowding at West Springfield High School, and I referenced the likelihood that the West Springfield boundaries would be reviewed again during the next five-year holistic boundary review. I apologize for any confusion or concern these remarks may have caused.

To be clear, I am not advocating for any additional changes to the West Springfield High School boundaries during the five years between boundary reviews, beyond those already outlined by the Superintendent involving Rolling Valley Elementary School and Keene Mill Elementary School. My intent was simply to ensure transparency with the community. Because West Springfield High School remains significantly over capacity, it will remain on the follow-on list, and I wanted families to be aware of that reality so there are no surprises in the future.

To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to share questions, comments, or concerns directly with School Board members, I will be holding a West Springfield High School Pyramid Proposed Boundary Changes meeting with Franconia District School Board Member Marcia St. John-Cunning and At-Large Member Kyle McDaniel in the Irving Middle School cafeteria on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 7 p.m. Please register in advance and submit questions or topics you wish us to address. Note that there is another event taking place at Irving that evening, so parking may be a challenge.

Additionally, the School Board will hold another public hearing on proposed boundary changes next Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School. This hearing will take place before the Board’s vote at the regular meeting that evening. Find more information below.

In the meantime, I encourage you to share your feedback on the Superintendent’s amended proposed boundaries with me.

I will be in touch soon,

Sandy
