News from the Fox Den

A Message from Ms. Consolla
It's been another great week in the Fox Den. At All School Meeting on Wednesday, we recognized one of our Grade 5 students who quickly assisted a classmate who was choking. We talked about how that action demonstrated what it looks like to be empathetic and a problem solver, two traits in our school vision. That same day, our Grade 6 students visited Sandburg MS in their new class t-shirts. They had a chance to hear about course offerings, including electives. As they've shown more responsibility, they've begun to earn more privileges including free choice seating at lunch. It's hard to believe that they will be moving on in a few months.
Last week, Dr. Reid shared the proposed changes to school boundaries. Fort Hunt is one of the schools impacted. The School Board will vote on these proposed changes next week Thursday, January 22 at 7pm. Click here for more information.
I hope to see you at BINGO Night next Friday. If you have prizes to donate, they are still be accepted in the office. Gently used stuffed animals, small toys, books, new beauty items, leftover stocking stuffers, regifts...the BINGO crew will take it.
As always, thank you for your partnership with us in your child's education at Fort Hunt.

If your New Year's Resolution was to clean out closets, this post may be just for you. Our Care & Share closet is in need of gently used boys and girls pants (especially with elastic waists) - any sizes. Jeans, sweatpants, and leggings are welcome. We use them when a student has an accident, slips in the mud, spills milk on themselves, etc. Please bring them into the main office. Thank you!

❄️ Prepare for Winter Weather
Winter weather is here! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.
⛄ Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities
We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.

Strategies for Better Sleep
Sleep is essential to good health, and getting enough sleep has big benefits to your physical and mental health and well-being. Sleep is restorative, allowing your body time to recover and repair.
This is true for your child, too. In fact, adequate sleep in children supports healthy brain development, learning, and memory consolidation, as well as their mood. And it is important for a strong immune system and the prevention of infections. Read about how much sleep a person needs and get some sleep strategies you can use with your family.
