Dear Sleepy Hollow Families,
As we honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we take time as a school community to reflect on the values he championed—justice, service, kindness, courage, and an unwavering belief in the dignity and potential of every individual.
Dr. King reminded us that “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” At Sleepy Hollow Elementary School, these words are deeply aligned with who we are and what we strive to be. Our mission and vision, We Are Family, call us to care for one another, to lift one another up, and to ensure that every child feels seen, valued, and supported.
Each day, our hallways reflect the spirit of inclusiveness and acceptance that Dr. King envisioned. Students learn alongside peers from many backgrounds, languages, and experiences, and they do so with empathy, curiosity, and respect. We see kindness in action through friendships formed across differences, collaborative learning, and a shared commitment to making our school a welcoming place for all.
This celebration is not only a moment of remembrance, but also a call to action. We encourage our students to live out Dr. King’s values by showing compassion, standing up for what is right, and serving others—both within our school family and beyond. These lessons help shape not only strong learners, but thoughtful, caring citizens.
Thank you for being our partners in nurturing a community grounded in respect, unity, and love. Together, we continue the important work of honoring Dr. King’s legacy through our actions, our words, and our commitment to one another.
With gratitude and respect,
Mirnaly Vega
Principal, Sleepy Hollow Elementary School
