Live updates: Day 2 of major snowstorm sweeping New England

The snowstorm that has swept through the eastern United States brings a second day of impacts to New England on Monday, with more snow on the way and continued travel disruptions.

Our weather team is tracking several more inches of snow expected to fall on Monday, between ocean effect and a final band during the afternoon. That’ll bring the highest totals toward 24 inches.

Travel will still be tough on Monday, and with hundreds of school cancellations across the region — it’s shaping up to be a classic snow day in New England.

FIRST ALERT: When will the snow stop? Tracking latter half of storm

While the storm is still swirling around Monday, the widespread, heavy snow has passed. We’re left with what we call ocean effect – identical to lake effect but coming off the ocean.

Along the coast, we had a break Sunday night from the intense cold thanks to the easterly wind, but now that the wind has shifted to the north, the cold has rushed back.

Cleanup will be frigid Monday, so take frequent breaks to warm up.

Power outages reported in Massachusetts as snowy conditions linger

Power outages have been increasing throughout the morning in Massachusetts, with over 2,000 customers in the dark by 6 a.m.

Pockets of power disruptions were spread across the state, with more communities in the eastern half of Massachusetts reporting issues.

As of 6 a.m., there were 2,105 customers without power, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

What does travel look like Monday as snow continues?

Travel impacts from the snow storm continue Monday with road crews working through the night and hundreds of flights canceled at Logan Airport.

Plow crews have been out for hours now, trying to keep up with the snow as it falls. Major highways appear passable, but you’ll have to go slow over layers of snow and slush.

The winter storm has really caused havoc for air travel. At Logan Airport, most flights coming into and leaving the airport Monday have been cancelled.
