| Good morning. Storer H. Rowley of Northwestern University did not mince words about President Donald Trump in the Sunday Opinion section, arguing that "this nation that was once such a beacon for democracy and helped build the post-World War II global order is now viewed by foes and even friends as a corrupt, unreliable and immoral rogue state." And that is one of Rowley's milder statements. It is a powerful dissent and an example of the school of thought that argues for no cooperation with Trump; only resistance. And, in an attempt to find some solace in the national political scene, we welcome the news that the Second Lady is having a baby. Also today: We return to the big upzoning row on Chicago's North Side, a never-ending source of controversy, it seems, for North Broadway. And correspondent John T. Shaw looks at statesmanship. Remember that? Have a good Monday. We're beginning our endorsement interviews. — Chris Jones, editorial page editor Submit an op-ed | Submit a letter to the editor | Meet the Tribune Editorial Board | Subscribe to this newsletter |
