Take heart, skiers and snowboarders, we may see increased snowfall in the mountains in a couple of weeks. OpenSnow founding meteorologist Joel Gratz, who pores over sophisticated weather models to generate his highly respected mountain forecasts, reports that "signs continue to point toward stormier weather starting around Feb. 10 and lasting into late February." There is hope!

Heads up

Weekend weather in the metro area will be sunny with forecast highs in the upper 40s on Friday, mid 50s on Saturday and upper 50s on Sunday. Little to no snow is expected for ski country until next week.

Breckenridge resort picked up 13 inches of fresh snow last weekend. Other Colorado resorts receiving more than a foot included Vail, Wolf Creek, Snowmass, Purgatory, Aspen Mountain and Beaver Creek. (JP Douvalakis/Provided by Breckenridge Resort)

Monarch Mountain opened an exciting new terrain expansion on Thursday, making it the rare ski area spanning the Continental Divide with skiing and riding on both sides. The 377-acre No Name Basin expansion will add 12 runs with a new lift, Monarch’s first terrain on the west side of the Divide, with nearly 1,000 feet of vertical drop.
