Greetings Bryant Families!
After a week of shoveling, breaking up ice, shoveling, and breaking up more ice, our custodians have done an outstanding job of preparing Bryant high school. I cannot thank our custodial crew enough for their amazing work in such difficult conditions. Please continue to check the FCPS website for updates regarding delays and closings.
As we look to the coming week, we are preparing for our WIDA Palooza. Students who are eligible for Multilingual Learner (ML) services will participate in the WIDA assessments on February 4th and February 5th. Students will take tests on both days. At the end of the first day of testing, all students will participate in a school wide assembly where they will learn about raptors, birds, and owls organized by science teacher, Ms. LaPorta. Students not taking part in the WIDA assessments will participate in service learning and have time to complete work and/or makeup tests as needed. Please help ensure your student attend school each day so they may participate in these assessments.

Academic Advising
February 9-27, school counselors will meet with each student to discuss course selections for the 2026-2027 school year. Counselors will review student interests, academic goals, required courses, and work with students to ensure they have selected courses that help them stay on track to graduate. If you have any questions regarding academic advising, please contact your student’s counselor.
Grant Recipients
Congratulations to school counselors, Ms. Harley, Mr. Jackson, Ms. Lemus-Ortiz, and Ms. Veenstra! They are recipients of an Educate Fairfax Grant. By providing incentives and fostering honest conversations about why showing up matters, counselors will use these funds to help students overcome attendance challenges.
Congratulations to Dr. Waddell! She is the recipient of a Foundation for Applied Technical Education - Career and Technical Education Program Enhancement Grant.
Dr. Waddell and her students will build an outdoor playhouse for young children. They will learn floor, wall and roof systems for building a structure and also integrate specialized requests such as a storefront or shelving.

Opportunity to Apply for Student Representative to the School Board
Each year, in accordance with Policy 1802, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students have the opportunity to apply for the position of Student Representative to the School Board. The student representative is not a member of the School Board but serves in a non-voting, advisory capacity, representing the interests of students in Fairfax County Public Schools.
Students who are currently in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to apply and do not need to be current members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC). The student representative shall be a resident of Fairfax County or Fairfax City and a student in FCPS.
The application involves two components. Both are required to be considered for the election.
The 2026 election will consist of two parts:
- The first part of the election is a virtual Primary Election held on April 23, 2026, using FCPS Zoom. Candidates have the option to attend this event. Candidates will be notified by email regarding the Primary Election results.
- The second part of the election is a General Election held in person on April 30, 2026, at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Candidates who advanced from the Primary Election are required to attend the General Election on April 30, 2026.
Additional information and details regarding both the Primary and General Elections will be shared with candidates via email.
