From the Principal’s Pen

Dear Laurel Hill Families,

After six snow days, we are finally back in school! We would like to extend a huge thank you to our custodial staff and the FCPS snow removal team for clearing enough of the sidewalks to ensure safe travel to and from school. We also appreciate our families for reminding students to stay off the snow and ice to help prevent accidents.

Next week is our monthly PTA meeting, and we encourage everyone to attend and support our school community. An Internet Safety presentation will take place prior to the meeting. The Internet Safety session will begin at 6:00 PM, followed by the PTA meeting at 7:00 PM. Both events will be held in the school library.

We hope to see you there!

Lastly, this week is National School Counseling Week. We want to highlight the tremendous impact our school counselors, Mrs. Reznikoff and Ms. Coleman, have in helping students achieve academic success and in planning for their futures. School counselors work with students in a variety of different capacities, whether it is through classroom lessons, group sessions, or individual counseling. Outstanding Principal of the Year for Region 4

Congratulations to our very own, Principal Janice Dalton, who has been named Outstanding Principal of the Year for Region 4. Ms. Dalton leads with high expectations for all and has built strong systems of accountability that ensure students receive a high-quality education. We are so proud of her! The impact she has on our school, our community, our region, and our district is unmatched! Congratulations, Principal Dalton!

Coming Soon! Meal Kits for Fasting FCPS Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten later in the day. To sign up and learn more, please click here.

The Food and Nutrition Program at FCPS is committed to providing well-balanced and nutritious meals to all students.

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, students will enter their student ID number as their cafeteria PIN at the cash register to receive their meals. You can access your student’s ID number via ParentVUE.

All families are encouraged to apply for Free and Reduced Price Meals. Families can apply for free and reduced-price meal benefits anytime during the school year. If a family’s income changes at any point, they may become newly eligible according to federal income guidelines and can apply immediately. This includes income interruptions caused by furloughs, layoffs, or job losses. Once approved, benefits remain valid for the rest of the school year and for up to 30 school days into the following school year, even if the family’s income changes again.

Families with students enrolled in participating schools will receive breakfast and lunch at no charge.

Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

Determine eligibility.
Identify your local school.
Gather documents.
Fill out forms.
Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events our school may host.
