Principal’s Message

Dear Wolverine Community,
Drumroll please! The groundhog known as Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Monday morning. That means we could see six more weeks of winter, at least according to Groundhog Day lore. Let’s hope this little guy is wrong!
Congratulations to Ms. Julie Armstrong for receiving the honor of Pyramid Operational Support Employee for our entire pyramid. We are super proud of her and wish her luck at the Region level!
Alum Shout-Out: Miguel Tsang, former editor-in-chief of The WP Wire and current journalism student at Northwestern University, earned acclaim by being part of Northwestern News Network’s first all-Spanish newscast in more than 10 years. Our Wolverine alumni are out there making us proud. Congrats, Miguel!
Plastic grocery bags-If you have any plastic bags laying around at home, bring them to the main office and put them in our recycling bin. We are trying to collect as many as possible.
West Potomac won the BEST WEBSITE in the FCPS Communication Excellence awards. The FCPS 2025 Awards of Communication Excellence celebrate the creation of excellent websites, newsletters, and social media content that inform and engage readers. The winners are examples of the substantial talent within the FCPS school communicator community. Below is information on how our website has excelled:
West Potomac High School’s school announcements are top-notch. The thumbnail images breathe life into the announcements, and the teasers are perfect. They provide enough detail to encourage viewers to click the announcement to learn more, without overwhelming them with paragraphs of content.
The school features are well-written and engaging — including participation in this year’s Alexandria Community Nutcracker, the Hispanic Interactive Wax Museum, and Sisters on the Field Flag Football.
The administration page is exactly how we’d like our secondary school leadership page to look and feel. Inviting pics of staff members from the same photo shoot, along with information on who they represent.
The Student Services page is rich with inviting photos and descriptions to help viewers navigate through course selection, connect with their school counselor and other Student Services staff, student testing, new student registration, and the College and Career Center.
The Student Life and Activities page highlights the school’s clubs and organizations, athletics, student publications, and a Seniors Class of 2026 page
Congratulations to Melinda Hedenberg who is our curator of the website. And if you have not visited our awesome website, please do at: https://westpotomachs.fcps.edu/
Have a nice weekend!
