Dear Bucknell Families,
We made it! I think it’s safe to say we all "survived" the #SnowCrete of 2026. While the ice and snow certainly tried to put a freeze on our routine, it was such a joy to see our students’ faces back in the hallways this week. Even with our two-hour delay schedule, the energy in the building was contagious!
Special Thank You
Before we dive into school updates, I want to share a personal note of deep gratitude. I am incredibly humbled to share that I have been named the FCPS Region 3 Principal of the Year. Thank you to everyone who called and sent messages.
While this is an immense honor, please know that this recognition is not about me. This reflects all of us #OneBucknell. I am so grateful for every relationship I have with our students, staff, and families. This award belongs to our entire community and the partnerships we have built together. It is a testament to the impact we make on our students' lives through our shared service and dedication. Thank you for allowing me to represent Region 3. I am honored to serve you today and every day.
Navigating the #SnowCrete
I also want to extend a sincere thank you for your incredible patience during arrival and dismissal this week. Because of the lingering snow and ice on neighborhood sidewalks, we saw a significant increase in our Kiss and Ride traffic. Thank you for staying alert and keeping our students safe as we navigated the slippery conditions together.
Academic Updates & Progress Reports
Our students didn't miss a beat! They jumped straight back into their academic routines, showing exactly why we are so proud of our Bucknell Bulldogs.
Please note that due to the recent school closures, the grading window was extended to ensure our teachers had ample time to review student work. As a result, Progress Reports will be coming home next week in Thursday Folders. As we review these reports, remember that we are officially roughly 90 days away from our Virginia State Assessments (SOLs). While these tests are one measure of success, being in class is about much more than just a score:

Consistent Growth: Academic progress is cumulative. When a student misses a day, they miss the foundational blocks needed for the next lesson.

The "10% Rule": Research shows that missing just 10% of the school year (about 18 days) can significantly impact a student’s reading and math levels.

The Power of Presence: We want our students here for more than just assessments. Every day a student is here is a day they are making adequate growth and building their future.
We want our students here, learning and growing, every single day. Every minute counts!
