Early Release

Wednesday, February 18th

The Early Release Wednesdays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development.  Students will be dismissed 3 hourearly eight times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route.  However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release on Wednesdays for many of our families.  To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.

The following dates are planned for Early Release Wednesdays throughout the school year:

·         February 18

·         March 18

·         April 22

·         May 13

PreK Parents as Partners Event

We are thrilled to invite all of our PreK families to the rescheduled Parents as Partners event on February 10th from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM in the school library! This special gathering is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our team and learn valuable strategies to support your child’s early learning journey. Your involvement is a key ingredient in your child's success, and we look forward to building this strong foundation together. We are so excited to see everyone there for an afternoon of collaboration and community!

Student Experience Survey

Next month, Dogwood will be administering the Student Experience Survey to all students in grades 3-12. It will help the school division better understand students’ experiences in our schools. It will take between 30-45 minutes and will be completed during school hours within the February 23 - March 6 survey window. If you would like to view the survey, please visit the Student Experience Survey webpage.

If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, you may opt them out using the online form on the Student Experience Survey webpage or by completing the opt-out form sent home in Thursday folders. You only need to complete the opt-out form by Friday, February 13, if you do not want your child to participate in the Student Experience Survey.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to make improvements in FCPS schools. If you have questions about the Student Experience Survey, please contact research@fcps.edu.

Warm Up FCPS Divisionwide Spirit Day

Tired of all the cold weather? Let’s warm up with a little school spirit across the division!

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid is encouraging all FCPS students, teachers, and staff to shake the wrinkles out of their brightest outfits and tropical wear to help brighten everyone’s moods on Thursday, February 19.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

Help Keep Dogwood Cell Phone-Free!

Please remind your student that cell phones and personal devices (AirPods, earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell). Cell phones are also not permitted to be used as an instructional tool.

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students stay focused, safe, and engaged at school. Visit FCPS’ cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions, including consequences for cell phone policy violations and exceptions for students with medical conditions or IEP/504 plans.

If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call our front office at 703-262-3100.
