News from the Fox Den

February 6, 2026

A Message from Ms. Consolla

It was so great to welcome everyone back after our extended snowcrete break! The energy was palpable on Tuesday as classmates reconnected.  I want to share a "proud principal" moment regarding the recent weather. While our custodial team works hard on the building and school grounds, several parents stepped up to clear snow from the crosswalks and high-traffic intersections off-campus where our students walk. I know that several of you advocated on behalf of the school with county personnel. This kind of community spirit is what makes Fort Hunt such a wonderful place to lead. Thank you for keeping our walkers safe!

In addition to the return to school, our main event this week was the much-anticipated Spelling Bee held today (Friday). It is no small feat to stand in front of peers and judges to tackle complex words under pressure. I want to offer a massive round of applause to every single student who participated. Stepping out of your comfort zone to embrace a challenge is exactly what we hope to foster in our students. You all showed incredible grit!

Looking ahead  to next week, there is a PTA meeting on Wednesday that will begin at 9am in the gym. Parents are invited to be a part of our weekly All School Morning Meeting and then transition to the library for the meeting.

Our SCA is sponsoring its next Spirit Friday: Love! Wear red, white & pink as well as all the hearts you can.  We know it is a little early but Friday, February 13 is the 100th day of school and there may be other activities going on that day in various classrooms.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for the warmth you bring to our school community, even on the coldest days. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and stay warm.

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.

Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.

FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage

Our Student Information Assistant, Ms. Rosa Dobarco, is on leave during February. Please direct any registration questions to Ms. Sarah Lee here at Fort Hunt at 703-619-2600 or selee2@fcps.edu

❄️ Prepare for Winter Weather

Winter weather is here! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.

⛄ Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.
