| I’ve always had a tendency to hold onto things just in case I need them someday. However, after years of upholding this habit, it turns out I rarely ever need that stuff after all. It only ends up taking much-needed space in my home.

| I’ve been leaning into decluttering in recent years, and it feels incredible. Below, I’ll share a couple of methods I’ve used to help me let go of books, clothes, and other items. I’d love for you to share your own tips as well.

| Decluttering usually involves getting rid of things you don’t use to make more space for yourself and the things you do use. It can also include removing and relocating items to a more suitable place.
|
| It might feel difficult or even overwhelming to decide what to keep and what to toss, but even just starting small can have positive effects on your health. The potential benefits include reduced stress, improved focus, and even supporting better sleep.
|
| My favorite strategies: asking myself whether an item “sparks joy” with the KonMari method, keeping only what I’ve used in the last couple of years, letting go of clothes that no longer fit, and organizing random things into “someday” piles that I’ll eventually sort through. If I need a boost of motivation, I’ll blast some music to help me through.
|
| Once I know what I need to let go of, I do it by:
|
- posting items for free on my city’s Facebook Buy Nothing group
- donating to local thrift stores
- giving things away to friends, family, and neighbors
- putting stuff out on the curb for passersby to grab as they please
|
