| | | Hello. Nine people have been killed and at least 25 injured in shootings at a school and a nearby house in a remote Canadian town. We'll bring you the latest. With an increasing number of oil tankers operating outside of maritime law and evading sanctions, we ask what can be done. And finally, an emotional Olympian made a shocking announcement after taking bronze. | | | | | | |
| TOP OF THE AGENDA | | Gun attack victims found dead in school and home in British Columbia | | | | | Police have said they believe the two attacks could be linked. Credit: Trent Ernst/Tumbler RidgeLines | | One of the worst mass shootings in Canada's history has taken place at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a nearby home in the British Columbia town. Six victims were found dead inside the school, a seventh person died on the way to hospital, and two bodies were found at a nearby address. One student told Canadian news outlet CBC that he and his classmates "got tables and barricaded the doors" during the shooting. So far, little information has been released by the authorities, including the identities or ages of the victims. An earlier alert described the shooter as a "female in a dress with brown hair". The suspected attacker's body was found at the school with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot injury. | | | | | | | | - Gun laws: It is legal to own a firearm in Canada but the rules are much stricter than in many US states. Here's how they work.

| | | BEYOND THE HEADLINES | | Sanctions-busting shadow ships are increasing - what can be done about them? | | | | | | | Shadow vessels are also known as 'dark' or 'ghost' fleet. Credit: Getty Images | | Almost one in five of the world's trading tankers are part of a shadow fleet - vessels operating outside maritime rules, using different methods to conceal their identities in order to evade sanctions. Oil revenue from this fleet, such as that from Russia or Iran, is used to fuel conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. With the number of falsely flagged ships more than doubling last year, what can be done about it? And are we starting to see governments fighting back? | | | | | | |
