| | | Hello. In the wake of the weekend's Munich Security Conference, Europe editor Katya Adler takes a look at the effects US President Donald Trump's second presidency is having on global alliances. Also in Germany, a multimillion-euro heist appears to have been carried out under the radar - find out what happened. And finally, watch as the International Space Station's latest crew arrive. | | | | | | |
| TOP OF THE AGENDA | | Europe is having to adjust to Trump's new world order | | | | | The ad hoc coalitions are not just restricted to defence. Credit: AFP/Getty Images | | President Trump's first year back in power has left transatlantic trust "severely damaged", writes Katya Adler. He has "at times insulted and undermined European leaders", put tariffs on goods and repeatedly stated that the US must have Greenland. As a result, Katya writes, European nations are asking whether traditional alliances can suffice or whether they should be diversifying. We have already seen the creation of "a la carte coalitions" to address different issues, she notes, such as the so-called Coalition of the Willing, formed to provide support to Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. While many of these alliances have been influenced by the Trump administration, they are "liable to be longer lasting", she writes. | | | | | | | | |

| | | BEYOND THE HEADLINES | The spectacular multimillion-euro heist nobody noticed | | | | | | | Questions have been raised over why the drill was not heard. Credit: Gelsenkirchen police | | On a quiet weekend just after Christmas, a group of thieves broke into a high street bank in the west German town of Gelsenkirchen, entering from a nearby car park and boring through a wall with an industrial drill. They stole cash, gold and jewellery worth millions of euros from more than 3,000 safe deposit boxes. Several weeks on, no one has been arrested and many questions have been raised, including: was it an insider job? | | | | | | |
