Director Emerald Fennell Talks Wuthering Heights, Sex and Death |
And "loving something so much you want to bite it" |
By Sarah Laing |
For a film marketed as the ultimate romance to see on Valentine’s Day, the new adaptation of Wuthering Heights has a surprisingly high bodily fluid count.
These ones made a particularly searing impression, viewed mostly between fingers: chunky vomit on a flagstone floor; urine splashed on an interior wall; the blood of a freshly slaughtered pig mixing with farmyard detritus to stain the hem of a gown; a dozen eggs crushed in a bed (their sexually charged double-meaning will forever shift the way you look at albumen).
