Principal's Message

Hello Bruin Community!

Our HS Theatre Department presented an outstanding opening night of Legally Blonde last night. The cast and crew were phenomenal. Tickets are still available for one show tonight and two shows on Saturday.

This week, we celebrated our School Resource Officers, Officers Segur and Tillman. They are instrumental in keeping LBSS safe, but it is their dedication to building relationships with our students that truly turns our building into a community.

Finally, good luck to all our athletes competing at State competitions this weekend. And to our boys and girls basketball teams competing in Regional tournaments on Monday. Please join us to support the girls team at Falls Church HS at 7:00 and the boys team here at LBSS also at 7:00.

Go Bruins!

Lindsey Kearns

New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

spring sports

The spring season is fast approaching and it’s time to make sure your child is eligible to tryout! Athletes need a Tryout Card to give the coach on the first day of tryouts. To be eligible for a Tryout Card, a valid VHSL physical must be on file and the student must be registered for the sport they intend to participate in.

The Revised April 2025 VHSL Form is the only version of this document that will be accepted. Pages 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the form are to be filled out and signed by the athlete and a parent/guardian. Page 3 & 6 must be filled out by an MD/DO/NP/PA. Starting July 1, 2025, physical exam forms will be valid for 14 months, on a rolling schedule. This means a physical exam completed on July 15, 2025, will be valid until September 15, 2026. Parents will receive reminders regarding expiration via email and are expected to submit a new physical before the previous one expires to maintain eligibility. This form must be turned into the Activities Office or the Athletic Training staff – it is good for any season or out-of-season (Green/Yellow Day) activities during the 14-month timeframe. Preferred submission via email - please send a single PDF document, including any additional clearance paperwork, to LBSSActivities@fcps.eduDO NOT GIVE PHYSICALS TO COACHES!

  • The Online Athletics & Activities Registration must be completed annually for any sport the student is interested in participating with (this includes out-of-season (Green/Yellow Day) activities). Instructions for online registration can be found on the registration homepage.
  • Tryout Cards will be distributed during the following dates/times/locations:
    • February 17th (No School) – 12:00-3:00 PM – Door 14
    • February 18th-20th & 23rd – All HS Lunches – Cafeteria

All required forms, contact information for coaches, tryout information (times & locations), and team schedules will be made available via the LB Athletics website - https://www.lakebraddockbruins.com.

Survey on Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Now Open for All Families and Middle and High School Students

On Monday, all FCPS parents/caregivers and middle and high school students received an email to participate in a voluntary and confidential survey. (Please check your spam folder if you have not received it.)

Questions refer to proposed changes to FCPS’ SR&R document for next year. This document outlines the rules that students are expected to follow, and guidelines for consequences if those expectations are not met. Possible changes include:

  • Universal Discipline: Charts will list consequences and supports for students. They will help ensure that two students of the same grade will be treated fairly and receive the same level of support.
  • Standards for In-School Suspensions of Students with Disabilities: Creating standards for how in-school suspensions are handled for students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 Plan.
  • Accommodations for Multilingual Learner Student Statements: Providing translation accommodations when Multilingual Learner students provide statements about disciplinary incidents.

The survey will be open until Friday, February 20. Survey materials are available online.

Planning for Life in and After High School for Students with IEPs

Families, caregivers, and educators of elementary and middle school students receiving special education services are invited to join Career and Transition Services (CTS) to learn about planning for life in and after high school.

The transition fair will take place on Wednesday, March 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Luther Jackson Middle School.

Ensuring the success of our students with disabilities after high school is dependent on what is known as transition planning. Please join CTS and other support service personnel for an evening focused on planning for the future.

An exhibitor fair will include teachers and representatives from CTS high school courses, career academies, age 18-22 programs, and transition services for students with disabilities. This event also includes a presentation with a brief overview of transition services and a student/parent panel sharing firsthand experiences. Register in advance
