Attendance Milestone: Every Day Counts
We are so proud of our students and families for the incredible progress we’ve made together regarding school attendance. Over the past few weeks, our chronic absenteeism rate has dropped to 10.7%!
This is a significant improvement and a testament to your commitment to getting your children to school on time and ready to learn. Regular attendance is the foundation of student success, and seeing this number drop tells us that our students are here, engaged, and growing. Let’s keep this momentum going!

Staying Warm & School Support
With the winter chill settled in, please remember to dress your children warmly for school. We prioritize fresh air and movement, so students will continue to head out to the playground for recess whenever the weather permits. If your family needs support with winter coats or warm clothing, please reach out to our School Social Worker, Joanna Ahlering, at jmahlering@fcps.edu for confidential assistance.
Next Wednesday: Career Day, Early Release, and Family Movie Night
Next Wednesday, February 25th will be a busy and inspiring day at Bucknell:

Career Day: We are so grateful to the many community members who will be visiting during our school day to share their professional journeys. These experiences are vital as we encourage college and career readiness from an early age.

3-Hour Early Release: Students will be dismissed three hours early next Wednesday. For families who have already signed up for the 3-hour early release childcare, we will assume those students will continue to stay at school for support as planned. If there are any changes, please email your child’s teacher.

Family Movie Night - Student Choice: Next week our PTA is sponsoring Family Movie Night on Wednesday, February 25th at 6:00pm, and we can’t wait to see you there! In the spirit of student agency, our Bulldogs are currently voting between two chilly favorites: Ice Age and Happy Feet. We love giving our kids a voice in this way, and we hope you can join us to see which film wins!

The Montessori program is growing! As we prepare to expand into first grade next year, here is what current Bucknell families need to know:

Lottery Opens Feb 20: All new applicants (including siblings of current students) must apply through the online portal at www.fcps.edu/montessori.

Priority for Bucknell: Bucknell residents and siblings of current Montessori students receive priority placement in the lottery.

Tuition Update: No tuition will be charged for PreK students new to the program in the 2026-27 school year.
