Atoms Winter Weekly Recap

Boys Basketball traveled to Mt. Vernon Monday for the first round of the district tournament. It was a tale of two halves for the Atoms as they couldn't score in the first half with cold shooting to put them in a 34-9 deficit at the half. The second half was different as the Atoms came out hot and cut the lead to 10 early in the fourth quarter but the energy to get there took too much out of them as they ran out of gas. The Atoms qualified for the Occoquan Region Tournament that begins Monday at West Potomac at 7:00pm.

Girls Basketball traveled to Edison Monday evening for the first round of the district tournament. The Atoms hung tough with the Eagles early trailing 11-7 after the first period. Unfortunately, cold shooting in the second doomed the Atoms as the Eagles were able to separate in the second quarter and third quarter to put the Atoms away for the evening and bring their season to a close.

Swim and Dive swam in the Occoquan Region Meet last weekend. Several swimmers performed well in the prelims and qualified for the finals on Saturday evening. Saturday was a great night for the Atoms as James Chilton, Samantha Decarearu, and CC Corbett placed in the top five to qualify for the VHSL State Meet. Other swimmers including Melanie Decareau and the 200 Relay team were able to qualify by time and all of them will be competing today at the Jeff Rouse Rec Center in Stafford for the VHSL State Meet.

Wrestling was represented by Junior Vera Puna in the VHSL State Championships in Virginia Beach. Junior was eliminated on Friday but battled in his matches as his wrestling career comes to a close. Next up for the wrestlers is the girls state meet in Richmond, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Lissette Puna.
