DIVINE INSPIRATION

Hey all,

Mark here. Here's what we have in store for this week...

WHAT I'M WRITING ABOUT

Meditation is often misunderstood as relaxation.

It’s not.

It’s neural training.

Recent neuroscience research shows that experienced meditators don’t just feel different—their brain activity actually reorganizes. Over time, the brain shifts toward a state scientists call Self‑Organized Criticality, where it balances stability and flexibility at the same time.

That balance is the sweet spot.

Too much rigidity and you become reactive—stuck in patterns.

Too much chaos and you become scattered—unable to focus.

Criticality is something else entirely:
Controlled adaptability.
Calm intensity.
Relaxed readiness.

Some meditation practices strengthen focus and stability.
Others develop openness and adaptability.

Both move the brain toward better information processing and clearer decision-making.

This isn’t philosophy.

It’s physiology.

Your inner training shapes your outer performance.

In a VUCA world, the leader who can stabilize their nervous system while remaining adaptable has a decisive advantage. Meditation is not about escaping reality.

It’s about rewiring how you meet it.

Hooyah.

⚔️ WARRIOR DRILL OF THE WEEK

For the next 7 days, practice two modes of awareness.

Mode 1: Focused Attention
Set a timer for 5 minutes.
Focus only on the breath.
When the mind wanders, bring it back—without judgment.

You are building neural stability.

Mode 2: Open Awareness

Set a timer for 5 minutes.
Instead of focusing on one thing, observe everything:

  • Sounds
  • Sensations
  • Thoughts
Let them arise and pass without attachment.
You are building neural flexibility.

Notice which mode you resist.
That is where growth lives.

PRACTICAL INTEGRATION

When pressure rises, narrow your focus.

One breath.
One task.
One decision.

This engages stability.
When complexity increases, widen your awareness.

Step back.
See the system.
Listen more than you speak.

This engages adaptability.
Train both.
Lead with both.
Your nervous system sets the tone for your team.

FEATURED IN

Recently, I was featured in CNBC, sharing the daily habits I use to keep my mind sharp after decades in elite special operations.

Read the article here:
“Retired Navy SEAL: My top 3 habits for a sharper mind—they kept me alive in combat zones.”

These practices—mental discipline, breathing, and intentional training—are the same tools I teach leaders who want to perform with clarity, calm, and resilience under pressure.
