Chris Lavis was still processing the magnitude of the achievement the morning after he and creative partner Maciek Szczerbowski won the Oscar for best animated short film for The Girl Who Cried Pearls on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.
But one thing Lavis knew for certain: Szczerbowski's shout-out to “the fantastic city of Montreal” from the Oscar stage was far from gratuitous, he said to The Gazette's T'Cha Dunlevy.
It wasn't just a win for the filmmakers, but also for the many locals, such as musician Patrick Watson, who contributed to the 17-minute labour of love.
