The above drawing is one of mine that was published in The New Yorker. I think this is what our allies are essentially saying to Trump. They are not coming to help Trump. He has asked our allies to help him re-open the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran controls and is using as a weapon right now, basically saying, it’s not our fault that Iran closed this “vital maritime artery, driving up prices for cargo and oil worldwide.” Trump whines that we (not he) have helped them, but they won’t help us now. But German Defense Minister said, “This is not our war; we did not start it.” Prime Minister Starmer of Britain said that his country “will not be drawn into the wider war” with Iran. The French foreign ministry said much the same. And the Polish foreign minister said that his nation had also “ruled out” sending forces into the conflict. Our allies would definitely help us if our president was an honest, kind, trustworthy individual who made informed decisions and cared about other people. We don’t have that right now. Major media outlets report that Iran’s Security chief has been killed. Israel says it has took out a linchpin of Iranian politics, Ali Larijani, in overnight strikes, a claim that if confirmed would make him the most senior Iranian figure to die in the war since the supreme leader Ali Khamenei was killed on its first day. Trump has placed an oil blockade on Cuba, cutting off fuel to the island. There was a country-wide blackout as a result. The country is suffering at the hands of Trump. “I do believe I’ll [have] the honor of taking Cuba,” Trump told reporters Monday afternoon. Asked whether this meant diplomacy or military action, he said: “Taking Cuba in some form … whether I free it, take it, I think I can do anything I want with it if you want to know the truth. They’re a very weakened nation right now.” This man is awful. He has purposefully weakened them—when they were already very weak— and now plans to take them over. Do they want that? I have no idea, but it worries me. Below are some drawings I did on my iPhone when I was in Cuba in 2019 as member of a jury for a cartoon contest (there are a lot of wonderful cartoon artists in Cuba). Here is a whole piece I wrote on my time there, along with many more drawings. I loved being there and can’t wait to go back. Such wonderful people and a beautiful island. ![]() There appears to be a right wing war brewing: The podcaster Megyn Kelly and Fox News host Mark Levin are two of the country’s best-known conservative influencers. She opposes the war in Iran. He supports it. The two leading figures of the MAGA movement have openly attacked each other over the wisdom of the war, and even what the American relationship to the Jewish state should be. This kind of bickering is only good news for Democrats. Trump said Gavin Newsom should not be president because he has dyslexia. What a horrible, hateful man to say that, to put down, and claim superiority to someone because of a disability. I know, we’ve seen this behavior from Trump before, but it remains shocking. That’s all I have for today. I hope you are having a good Tuesday so far. Hang in there, we will get through this together! You're currently a free subscriber to Seeing Things.
