How to make your shoes last longer

From the very first day you buy new shoes, there are quick, easy steps you can take to protect the soles and prevent a costly trip to the cobbler down the line.

For instance, every professional we spoke with recommended adding a protective sole to shoes with leather bottoms. They’ll last longer than the original soles and add some traction to the otherwise slippery bottoms. Another tip to catch damage early? Perform a press test: Place your shoe toe up, and run your thumb from arch to tip. If the center is soft, a hole is forming.
