Afternoon Briefing

Thursday, March 19, 2026

Good afternoon, Chicago.

An 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student was shot and killed overnight in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the Far North Side, Chicago police said. The student was identified as Sheridan Gorman in a statement from Loyola.

Shortly after 1 a.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 1000 block of West Pratt Boulevard, less than a mile away from the university. Gorman was walking with a group when a gunman approached on foot, pulled out a weapon and opened fire in the group’s direction, police said.
