Practice Schedule for the Week
Coaches have the right to adjust the schedule as they see fit, so make sure you are getting whatever communication comes from your program. Many of our programs have varying time schedules for practice as all our programs work together to maximize practice space and utilize our facilities equally.
Booster Club Update
Our Booster Club Board is small but mighty! We can use all the help, so if you are interested in supporting our student athletes and the Boosters efforts, let us know and we can get you connected. There are plenty of opportunities to help and even if you think your skillset is not useful, we can find a way to make it useful!
The Booster Club handles all things concessions which is the single largest source of income for our athletics budget. FCPS does not supply a yearly budget, so outside of buses and officials, we have to fundraise for everything else. The Boosters and their efforts, allow us the ability to purchase all the things that our student athletes need and want. Some of their recent purchases include the windscreens around our facilities, the baseball turtle and supporting our youth clinics.
Our Booster Club joined with several other people to donate money to cover almost 150 Hayfield students' entry into the Girls Region Basketball semifinal to support our ladies!
We have some big events coming up in the next month including three large wrestling events if you are looking for something to donate your time to. We will need plenty of help running our concession stand for these events, so please feel free to reach out.

Athletes of the Week

We were fortunate to have an incredible number of our student athletes represent Hayfield and Hawk Pride on their respective Fall All National District, Occoquan and Virginia State teams. See them all here - Hawks on the All National District Teams, Hawks on the All Occoquan Region Teams and Hawks on All State Who has next?
Kudos to all of our amazing student athletes that competed this Fall and Winter and to all our amazing student athletes that are competing for Spring teams! We look forward to seeing you all compete on the mats, in the pools, on the track and on the courts!
Girls varsity soccer started the year by beating Washington Liberty for the first time in a long time! Excited to see them continue to blend upperclass leadership and underclass energy and excitement.
Boys soccer competed hard against Washington Liberty and came up just short, but are showing no ill effects in adjusting to the first new coach in 20 years!
Girls lacrosse and boys lacrosse each competed hard against West Springfield and will no doubt be stronger from the match up.
Our softball and baseball teams are just itching to get out on their newly renovated diamonds if Mother Nature would just cooperate!
Our baseball team did take time out to conduct a youth clinic for 65+ young and aspiring Hawks.

Our tennis teams each won their first matches of the season against Lewis HS and continue to work hard.
Our track team competes this weekend in their first invitational track meet of the season and we are expecting some fast times and great distances!

New Head Football Coach

Hayfield Football is entering a new era—one grounded in strong leadership, character development, and a deep commitment to our student-athletes. Coach Liam Yao, our newly appointed Head Coach, brings a proven record of developing young people both on and off the field.
Coach Yao brings an abundance of experience, both in overall coaching as well as here at Hayfield. He has 13 years of coaching in Northern Virginia, including three seasons at Hayfield where he has quickly become a pillar within the community, dedicated to building a culture of accountability, teamwork, and growth.
Additionally, Coach Yao was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Northern Virginia Football Hall of Fame—an honor that reflects not only his football knowledge, but also the respect he has earned as a mentor and leader.
With an MBA from American University, Coach Yao brings a thoughtful, strategic approach focused on leadership development, character, and helping student-athletes reach their full potential both on the field and in all areas of life.
"Coach Yao has spent a decade shaping our young athletes into confident, disciplined leaders. We are excited to see him continue that work as he leads our Varsity program."

DECA State Leadership Conference
Hayfield Secondary School proudly took 47 students to compete at the Virginia DECA State Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach, where they participated in a variety of marketing and business-related competitions. Students demonstrated their knowledge and skills through role plays, presentations, and written events that challenged them to think critically and apply real-world business concepts. In addition to competing, students had the opportunity to connect with peers from across the state, attend leadership workshops, and experience the excitement of a large-scale professional conference. The event highlighted the hard work and dedication of Hayfield’s DECA members as they represented their school with professionalism, teamwork, and school pride.
