Good afternoon. It's Tuesday, March 24.

In today's newsletter:

  • After a bipartisan vote in the House, the Alaska Legislature is poised to pass an omnibus election reform bill, a goal that has eluded lawmakers since 2022.

  • Anchorage hasn't recorded an outdoor death for three months, according to the police department. If accurate, it would represent the longest stretch of time since 2018 in which no unhoused person died outside in the city.

  • Gov. Mike Dunleavy's administration is seeking takers for Alaska's oldest ferry. Since 2023, the Matanuska has served as a floating hotel, providing housing to Ketchikan-based ferry workers.

It's been a busy month as Alaska inches toward the transition into spring, and our photojournalists have been hard at work documenting life in Anchorage and beyond. From Fur Rondy and the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race to state championship basketball, here are some of our favorite photographs from March by Anchorage Daily News staff photographers and contributors.

Anchorage weather

It's sunny today with a high near 28 degrees. We'll continue to enjoy sunny skies for the rest of the week, with daytime highs hovering in the high 20s, according to the forecast.
