The biennial conference, held May 4-7 in Mobile, Alabama, will feature multiple sessions focused on the following:
- Resilience of Natural and Human Communities
- Data Collection, Application and Synthesis
- Communication and Engagement with Stakeholders
- Water Resources
- Habitat Restoration and Stewardship
- Living Resources
- Science, Practice and Policy of Integrated Local and Regional Planning
- Emerging Issues
- Coastal-Ocean Processes And Physical Oceanography
A few highlights for the week include:
- Monday’s series of informative workshops and a Welcome Reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
- Tuesday and Wednesday will begin with the Rise & Shine: Poster Session and Breakfast.
- Tuesday’s Opening Plenary will focus on “Resilience as a result of restoration investments” and highlight local success stories from coastal Alabama. Speakers will include Governor of the State of Alabama Kay Ivey, Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis, and Deputy Under Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere at NOAA Laura Grimm.
- Wednesday’s plenary will welcome a panel of early-career scientists from across the Gulf who will share their perspectives and excitement about what’s ahead for the region. The plenary panel, “New faces, new voices: The future of science, policy, and management,” will feature Hanna Bauer (Texas Parks and Wildlife Department), Marcy Cockrell (NOAA), Bradley Lewis (Thompson Engineering), Franziska Trautmann (Glass Half Full), and Charles Wallace (The Water Institute).
- Wednesday night will feature a Tools Café, which will be a great opportunity to discover new tools to support your work in the Gulf region.
