Greetings!The movie business has been on a hot streak since the start of the year, but the stakes get higher as we enter the critical summer box office season. Projections are calling for this period to top $4.2 billion, surpassing the post-pandemic high mark of the "Barbenheimer"-fueled 2023 summer. There's no guarantee of success, and as Jeremy Fuster notes, it only takes a few disappointments to derail those projections and jeopardize the potential forecast of $10 billion at the domestic box office. Remember, last year saw highly-anticipated films like "Elio" and "M3GAN 2.0" misfire badly, offsetting surprise hits like "Sinners." This year, theaters are being carried into summer with some momentum, thanks to the long legs of "Project Hail Mary" and "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," as well as the surprisingly strong "Michael." This weekend sees the debut of another hotly anticipated film in "The Devil Wears Prada 2." As Fuster notes, don't be surprised if the summer starts slow. But things should heat up quickly with Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan bringing out their latest entries, paired with new entries in the "Spider-Man," "Toy Story," "Minions" and "Scary Movie" franchises and a live-action remake of "Moana."
