2023 Annual Integrated Economic Survey Nonemployer Statistics
The U.S. Census Bureau recently released the 2023 Annual Integrated Economic Survey Nonemployer Statistics (AIES-NES), providing a more comprehensive perspective on U.S. economic activity beyond employer-based business measures.
In 2023, nonemployer businesses accounted for less than 4 percent of total U.S. revenue. However, the data highlight notable variation across industries, with nonemployer businesses surpassing employer businesses in revenue generation in several industries. For example, within the Taxi and Limousine Services industry, nonemployer business revenue was nearly double that of employer businesses.
