Afternoon Briefing

Friday, May 8, 2026

Good afternoon, Chicago.

Excavation at a South Elgin home yesterday turned up no human remains or investigative leads connected to the 2016 Kianna Galvin missing person case, the Kane County state’s attorney’s office said today.

Investigators spent the day yesterday doing excavation work at a home in the 800 block of Revere Road — the last place the 17-year-old South Elgin girl was seen on May 6, 2016 — after a radar examination of soil beneath the basement floor detected “anomolies” that investigators determined were worth exploring.

Here’s what else is happening today. And remember, for the latest breaking news in Chicago, visit chicagotribune.com/latest-headlines and sign up to get our alerts on all your devices.
