Memorial Day Schedule and Services, May 25
- City offices, DMV Select, and courts will be closed in observance of the holiday.
- Refuse and recycling collection scheduled for Monday, May 25 will be collected Tuesday, May 26.
- CUE Bus will run on the Saturday service schedule (8 a.m.-8 p.m.)

Battery Fire Risks Worker Safety and $350K Trash Truck
 A refuse worker retrieves a burning car battery from a city trash truck before it causes harm to anyone. Please, do not place any kind of battery in your trash or recycling cart. Always drop batteries off at a safe collection site.

Presentations and Proclamations
- Mayor Catherine Read presented proclamations acknowledging May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, May as Small Business Month, and May 10-16 as National Police Week in the City of Fairfax. Oversize checks were presented to recipients of the Chocolate Lovers grants.
Consent Agenda
- Approved a resolution setting the allocation percentage for Personal Property Tax Relief for the 2026 tax year at 39%.
- Approved the following appointments to city boards and commissions:
- Commission on the Arts
- Melissa Miller for the remainder of a three-year term through July 9, 2027.
- Kenneth Krafcheck for the remainder of a three-year term through Oct. 26, 2028.
- Ann Morrison or a three-year term through May 12, 2029.

Public Hearings
- Adopted the resolution approving the Solid Waste Management Plan Update. View the slide deck.
- Deferred council action to June 9 on an ordinance amending and re-enacting Chapter 38 (Environment), Article II (Noise), of the Code of City of Fairfax, pertaining to noise mitigation.
- Approved an ordinance and bond resolution authorizing the issuance of revenue bonds of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, in the maximum aggregate principal amount of $11,000,000, to finance capital costs related to the city’s sewer system capital project costs, including without limitation Noman Cole capital costs.
Work Session
- Discussed potential zoning text amendments regarding detached accessory dwelling units. View the slide deck.
- Discussed a possible increase in the compensation (salaries) paid to the mayor and the members of the city council.

Fairfax City Transportation Engineering Industry Day, June 16
The professional transportation engineering community is invited to attend “Transportation Engineering Industry Day” from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, at WillowWood Plaza in Northfax.
The city’s procurement team will share guidance on how to submit a strong proposal, including key compliance requirements. Attendees will learn about the scope of services available and the city’s expectations for its partners. City staff will share lessons learned from previous contracts and gather feedback and suggestions from industry during a moderated session.
The event, sponsored by Fairfax City Economic Development, the Fairfax City Public Works Department, Fairfax City Office of Procurement Services, and the Virginia Department of Transportation, will be held in the first-floor conference room at 10300 Eaton Place, Fairfax.
