An ideal Sunday ends with a great night’s sleep. Trackers—smartwatches, smart rings, phone apps—can tell you
how much shut-eye
you actually got, and perhaps log how long you spent in different sleep stages. But more data has downsides: fretting about rest is one of the most common causes of a sleepless night.
This week ExxonMobil’s shareholders voted to cut ties with New Jersey and reincorporate in Texas. The oil major is only the latest company to shift its headquarters to the Lone Star State. From Dallas’s “Y’all Street” to Austin’s “Silicon Hills”, Texas is steadily establishing itself as
America Inc’s new centre of gravity.
What to expect in the week ahead:
▸ Ethiopia heads to the polls on Monday.
Abiy Ahmed,
the prime minister, is certain to be re-elected. Mr Abiy once promised a historic transition to democracy. Instead, through guile and brute force, he has
personalised power
to a degree unseen since the country’s last emperor.
▸The euro area’s inflation data for May will be published on Tuesday. Its annual inflation rate has been creeping up this year, hitting 3% in April, as a consequence of
higher energy prices
induced by the war in Iran.
▸ More American states hold primary elections on Tuesday, including California. Voters will choose the top two candidates for the state’s next governor. Gavin Newsom, the incumbent, cannot run again because of term limits. More than a dozen Democrats are running, among them
Tom Steyer,
a billionaire. |
