Okay.
Back to the newsletter.
You already know what you're supposed to do with money.
- Spend less than you make.
- Build an emergency fund.
- Stop financing dinner.
- Blah, blah, blah.
I can almost hear Uncle Dave rolling his eyes at your latte.
But you've heard the rules a hundred times and could probably recite them back to me in a couple different languages at this point.
So why are you still stuck?
Well, knowing the rules was never your problem.
Here's what I've learned auditing hundreds of people: the thing keeping you broke usually isn't a math problem.
It's fear.
It's the stack of unopened envelopes on the counter because looking at the number feels worse than not knowing.
It's the story you tell yourself that you're just "bad with money," so why bother trying.
I had someone on the show once who hadn't checked their bank balance in months.
MONTHS!
Not because they couldn’t remember their login, but because they were terrified of what they'd see.
he not-knowing cost them more than any overdraft fee ever could. It cost them the belief that they could fix it.
That's the real trap.
Avoidance feels like safety, but it's actually the most expensive thing you'll ever do.
Here's what I need you to hear, so pretend I’m slamming the table and SCREAMING: you don't have to be perfect to make progress.
You just have to stop looking away. One honest look at your numbers beats a year of pretending.
And I send some version of this message a few times a month, because it’s THAT IMPORTANT.
So look.
Look today.
That's the whole assignment.
Just rip off the bandage and check the damage.
Once you know how bad it is, you can start healing.
Taquitos,
Caleb “The Only Thing to Fear is Fear Itself” Hammer
P.S. FYI The Lifetime Hammer Elite spots are probably gone by now.
(You snooze, you lose.)
But The Hammer Elite App is officially live, and it's the completely uncensored version of every show we make.
And for the rest of June you can grab the annual subscription for $30 off.
It doesn’t come with a cute little plush version of me, but it’s still pretty much the tits.
Go download the app and watch all your favorite Hammer shows with ZERO bleeps.
It’s like HBO for Financial Audit.
