I think the best approach for the community potluck would be to ask everyone to bring a side or dessert so the main dishes don't get overwhelming. We have about thirty people coming and the park shelter has two long tables. I was thinking we could set up a simple sign-up sheet using a shared document so we know what is already covered. That way we avoid ending up with four pasta salads and no vegetables. We should also confirm who has access to a cooler and who can bring serving utensils. I can handle the beverages. If we keep the menu straightforward it will be easier for everyone. Let me know what you think about starting a quick list this week.

Regarding the weekend hiking trip I think we should aim for the northern loop trail instead of the ridge path because the weather forecast shows cooler temperatures and the northern route has more shade. We need to pack enough water for about six hours and I can bring the trail map and a small first aid kit. If we start by eight in the morning we will have plenty of time to rest at the lookout point before heading back down. Let me know if you want to stop for lunch at the cafe near the trailhead afterward. I can also check if anyone else wants to join us so we can coordinate vehicles.
