Our story

40 years ago, the story of Meesterslijpers began within our family. Our father, now retired, moved from Friesland to Amsterdam and bought Meesterslijpers. He learned the grinding trade and professionalized the craft.

The grinding technique was passed down from father to son, which makes the craft unmatched by others. From knives to hairdressing scissors, from slicing machine blades to pocket knives. You can come to us for anything. By the way, don't forget your free Kazoku knife.

The history

Knives, pans and... hair clippers?

That's right. Meesterslijpers actually started as a sharpener of knives, scissors and hair clippers. Sales naturally came with it. Since the beginning of the shop, we've strived to sell the best brands and products. And that's how we became known among chefs, hairdressers and tailors.

The step toward becoming a kitchen shop

When the lady of the house joined Meesterslijpers, pots and pans quickly followed, and we became more and more of a kitchen shop. But we've stayed true to our roots. Alongside pans and baking gear, you'll still find professional hair and fabric scissors, clippers and manicure products.

In our cozy, full shop there's plenty to browse, and if you look carefully, you'll often find that one fun product you didn't know existed, or exactly the thing you've been searching for.

The new generation

Today, alongside the sharpener and his wife, 3 of their sons and a son-in-law stand in the shop. Real knowledge and love for the craft runs through us. But even more important: you get personal service here. With us, customers aren't a number, but friends we're happy to help.

Father Thomas, who over 40 years turned Meesterslijpers into a household name, retired in 2020. Fortunately, he still stops by every week for a coffee. His wife Ellen can't do without the contact with customers, and still works a few hours a week in the shop.

Our shop has been located on the Kinkerstraat in Amsterdam West for more than 30 years. The shop is known for being fully stocked with products, and every corner has something fun to discover. Take your time, because it's often rewarded with finding a product that's almost nowhere else to be found.
