Good morning. What happened this weekend? A lot of sports: the World Cup, NBA, NHL, and Trump's UFC birthday bash on the White House lawn.
Most of these sports bled into the news world in one way or another, as you'll see below.
Trump also announced a peace framework with Iran, but first, breaking news out of Ukraine:

Deadly strikes in Ukraine include hit on historic cathedral

A large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine today killed rescue workers and sparked a fire at one of the country's most significant religious landmarks, a monastic complex of golden domes in the heart of Kyiv.
What's happening: Flames and smoke rose from Dormition Cathedral of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, also known as the Monastery of the Caves. Rescue workers fought the blaze as clerics looked on or tried to salvage objects from the centuries-old site.
The wider attack: The Russian salvos also killed rescue workers in Kharkiv, a city in northeastern Ukraine, while many people were wounded in Kyiv, the capital, where residents sought shelter underground.

Iran, U.S. have a deal of sorts. What now?
|
|
|
U.S. President Donald Trump and senior Iranian officials say they have reached a memorandum of understanding to bring an end to the war pitting the United States and Israel against Iran.
What's happening: "Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon," Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a social media post. The Lebanon element is crucial because that means the deal imposes a ceasefire on the related conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which had been a key demand of Iran. The agreement does not, however, specify what happens to Iran's nuclear program.
Why it matters: Thousands of people have been killed, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28. The deal would also reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reported. The body of water was the shipping route for 20 per cent of the world's crude oil before the war ledTehran to close it, triggering spikes in fuel prices worldwide.

Women with traumatic brain injuries get less care than men, Ontario study finds
|
|
|
Women with traumatic brain injuries are far less likely than men to be admitted for trauma care, new Ontario research shows.
What's happening: A study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, published today, found that from 2009 to 2020 roughly a quarter of women in the study were admitted to specialized trauma centres, compared to nearly 40 per cent of men.
Why it matters: The study raises questions about why patients with similar, life-altering injuries may be receiving less-specialized treatment.
