This year’s International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) marks 34 years since the CBD text was adopted on 22 May 1992. This year’s theme “Acting locally for global impact” underscores the critical scale and urgency in implementing broad-based action to transform our societies’ relationship with biodiversity by 2030, and to fulfill our shared vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050.
IDB 2026 is likewise timely for IUCN to roll out its new four-year programme in the lead up to 2030 through the power of the Union – its Members, Commissions and Secretariat. Here in Asia, IUCN is advancing solutions to conserve species, restore water and wetlands, sustain protected and conserved areas, safeguard coasts and oceans, and support forests and drylands – turning global commitment into practical action.
We at the IUCN Asia Regional Office (ARO) are commemorating IDB 2026 on our first year as an officially designated CBD Subregional Technical and Scientific Cooperation (TSC) Support Centre. This mandate positions IUCN Asia to foster and coordinate cooperation among CBD Parties, and to support KMGBF progress through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building across the region.
On this Biodiversity Day, we invite Union constituents and partners to further share and promote scalable solutions – so that together we can deliver measurable outcomes for nature and people across the region and around the world. |
