Travelling by bike is a surefire way to slow things down. So when writer Steve Lyons visited Churchill, Manitoba during a balmy stint of 14 degree Celsius weather, he hopped on a bicycle. On wheels, he could hear the waves, smell the wildflowers – the things he’d otherwise miss through the window of a car. But this remote part of the country also comes with a warning: watch out for polar bears.
