Rex Heuermann, the former Manhattan architect who led a double life as the Gilgo Beach serial killer, was sentenced to multiple life terms without the possibility of parole at an emotionally wrenching hearing. Before Heuermann was sentenced, relatives of the women he admitted to strangling and dismembering addressed the court and delivered searing victim impact statements. Amanda Funderburg, a sister of victim Melissa Barthelemy, condemned Heuermann as a “demon inside and out” and added, “I hope you take a spot in hell.” |
