How I find inspiration when nothing sounds right

Hi,

Every producer gets stuck from time to time.

When that happens, I usually try one of these three things.

First, I use very similar sounds for the bass, mids and highs.

The mids usually carry the melody.

The bass handles the low end.

The highs become hi hats and percussion.

Because all three sounds share a similar character, the track often feels more cohesive.

Second, I spend time listening to music outside of my comfort zone.

Whenever I discover something I like, I try to understand what attracted me to it and how I could apply that idea to my own music.

Third, I listen to music that I don't like.

Instead of dismissing it, I ask myself how I would have produced it differently.

Surprisingly, this often gives me more ideas than listening to music I already enjoy.

I'm curious.

What do you do when you're feeling uninspired?

Feel free to reply and let me know.

I'll share the best answers with everyone.
