TOP OF THE AGENDA | Can the UK's next PM charm Trump all over again? |
| | In the Oval Office on Monday, Trump said of Starmer: "I wish him well." Credit: Getty Images | A day after Sir Keir Starmer announced his resignation as the UK prime minister, the stage may be set for the former Greater Manchester mayor, Andy Burnham, to replace him. Some in the Labour Party wonder if there should be a contest rather than a coronation, but, if there isn't one, Burnham could be in office within weeks. | BEYOND THE HEADLINES | The hospitals who beat a cyber-attack |
| | | More than 100 hospitals were cut off from the internet as a preventative measure. Credit: BBC | When it became clear that hospitals in Romania were suffering a major cyber-attack in 2024, security chiefs sent out an order: disconnect from the internet, now. Medical staff had to switch to pen and paper, while continuing to care for patients. It worked. In a world where cyber-attacks are an increasingly common threat, this was one of the worst of its kind. But, as our cyber correspondent Joe Tidy explains, this has become a test case for disaster planners internationally. |
