No, Chrome isn't killing ad blockers

Another week, another round of headlines claiming Google is about to kill ad blockers. This time, the panic is over Chrome removing the last remaining Manifest V2 compatibility features — changes that will also affect Chromium-based browsers like Edge, Opera, Brave, and Vivaldi.

The reality is much less dramatic. According to AdGuard CTO Andrey Meshkov, the most important part of the transition happened years ago, and modern ad blockers have already adapted. All old MV2 extensions will stop working for good, but the predicted ad-blocking apocalypse never arrived — and isn't arriving now.

The good news: this doesn't automatically make all of them dangerous, but it does make choosing trustworthy extensions more important than ever.
