The Recommendation

Today: An incredibly extravagant chair. Plus …

“This folding chair costs more than $500. I’m the jerk who loves it anyway.”

We know, we know. The price tag on this folding chair is preposterous. But we like to think of it as a really, really nice chair … that just happens to fold.

When editor Rory Evans picked one up for her dining table, she was charmed by how her shoulders nestled perfectly against the contoured backrest, and how the slight pitch of the seat made the hard wood feel comfortable. Though it’s handsome enough to leave out, it also, of course, tucks away when needed: “This folding chair, I realized, would open up a whole new world for my space-crunched dining area.”

We’re not saying you need this chair, but if some part of you is tempted by the chic, blond-wood seat, it is on sale today. Just saying.

And the best (normal) folding chairs

If you’re on the hunt for a less extravagant but equally sturdy and reliable folding chair, our home decor experts have been testing various models since 2017. Their favorites include a breathable plastic option that feels almost cushioned and a classic metal bistro seat that’s perfect for outdoor dining.
