Have you looked into the trail conditions for next weekend? I checked the park website and they said the loop is open but the southern part might still be muddy from the rain last week. I am planning to start early around 7 AM to avoid the heat. There is a nice spot near the old oak tree where we can stop for water. I also wanted to ask if you are still bringing the lightweight chairs. The group size should be fine with six of us. Let me know if you need me to pick up any snacks. I can grab some trail mix and fruit. Also, I heard the ranger station has a new map that shows the recent reroute around the fallen logs. That might be useful. I think the total distance is about 8 miles with moderate elevation gain. We should check the weather forecast the night before. If it looks rainy we can move to the alternate route that stays lower.

I think the pasta recipe you asked about is fairly simple. Start with a box of good spaghetti or linguine. Boil it until it's al dente, then reserve a cup of the pasta water. In a large pan, cook some chopped garlic in olive oil over medium heat until it is fragrant, about two minutes. Add a can of crushed tomatoes and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Let that simmer while you roughly chop a handful of fresh basil. When the pasta is ready, toss it in the sauce along with the reserved water if it needs a little loosening. Top with grated Parmesan and fresh basil. That's it. I like to serve it with a side salad and crusty bread. If you want to add protein, cooked sausage works well. Let me know how it turns out for you. I might try it with cherry tomatoes next time.
