I was telling my sister the other day that I think I finally figured out why my sourdough starter keeps failing. It's been almost three weeks and I still can't get it to double in size properly. She suggested I try feeding it with rye flour instead of all-purpose and see if that makes a difference. I also started keeping it in the oven with the light on because our kitchen gets pretty cold at night. Honestly, I didn't realize how much attention these things need. XKEg4z37Tvakz It's like having a pet that you have to feed every single day. But when I see those beautiful bubbles forming, it feels rewarding. I'm hoping by the weekend I can finally attempt my first loaf.

You know, I finally started reading that mystery novel everyone has been talking about and I can see why it's so popular. The way the author weaves together all these different character perspectives is really clever. I'm about halfway through and I still can't figure out who the culprit is, which rarely happens with me. I usually guess by chapter three but this one has me completely stumped. The pacing is really tight too. There are no wasted scenes or filler chapters. Every piece of dialogue seems to matter somehow. I'm trying to read a bit every night before bed but I keep staying up way too late because I can't put it down.
