Thanks for asking about the weekend hike I took up near the ridge. I ended up leaving around 6:30am and it was the perfect time because the morning fog was just starting to lift and the trail was completely empty except for a few deer near the lower meadow. The first mile is all switchbacks through tall pines and it gets steep but once you break through the tree line the view opens up across the whole valley. I stopped at the overlook about halfway and had some water and just listened to the birds for a while. There was a cool breeze coming off the lake so even though the sun was warm it never felt too hot. The trail levels out after the second mile and follows the ridge for about another mile with wildflowers blooming along both sides which made the whole thing feel really peaceful. I reached the summit around 8:30 and there was nobody else there so I sat on a flat rock and had breakfast while watching the clouds drift through the peaks to the east. The trail markers were clear and easy to follow and the path was well maintained. If you go I would definitely recommend bringing an extra layer because the wind at the top can catch you off guard even on a warm day. Let me know if you want the exact trailhead directions I used.

I finally tried making that pasta dish you mentioned last week and it turned out surprisingly well for a first attempt. The key was letting the garlic and shallots cook in olive oil on low heat for about eight minutes before adding anything else which gave the whole sauce a really mellow sweetness instead of that sharp raw garlic taste. I used cherry tomatoes that I halved and let them roast in the pan until they started to blister and pop which created this nice thick sauce without needing any tomato paste at all. The fresh basil went in at the very end just before serving so it stayed bright and aromatic. I paired it with a simple arugula salad with lemon juice and shaved parmesan and honestly it was one of the better meals I have made in a while. My neighbor stopped by to borrow a book and ended up staying for dinner and asked for the recipe. I am definitely adding this one to the regular rotation. Let me know if you have any other recommendations because I am on a roll with trying new things in the kitchen lately.
