Wall Street faces a pivotal week as earnings season accelerates with reports from Tesla, Alphabet and a slate of blue-chip companies, while investors also look to the Farnborough International Airshow for aerospace orders and AMD's latest artificial intelligence announcements.

The earnings calendar gathers momentum on Wednesday with results from Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL), Tesla (TSLA), Texas Instruments (TXN), IBM (IBM), AT&T (T), ServiceNow (NOW), Philip Morris (PM) and Kinder Morgan (KMI). Thursday brings reports from Intel (INTC), T-Mobile (TMUS), Lockheed Martin (LMT), Union Pacific (UNP) and Comcast (CMCSA), while American Express (AXP), Verizon (VZ) and Charter Communications (CHTR) close out the week on Friday. Earlier in the week, General Motors (GM), Charles Schwab (SCHW), Capital One (COF) and Danaher (DHR) are also due to report.

Beyond earnings, investors will be watching AMD's Advancing AI event in San Francisco on Wednesday, where CEO Lisa Su is expected to outline the chipmaker's latest AI strategy. Samsung will also hold its Galaxy Unpacked event in London, with new foldable smartphones, smartwatches and potentially its first smart glasses expected to be unveiled.

The macro calendar is lighter as Federal Reserve officials enter their communications blackout period ahead of the July 28-29 policy meeting. Elsewhere, the European Central Bank announces its latest policy decision on Thursday, while global flash PMI data and U.S. new home sales on Friday will provide fresh insight into economic activity. Investors will also keep an eye on the expiration of the temporary 10% U.S. global import tariff, unless Congress acts to extend it.

In aerospace, the biennial Farnborough International Airshow begins Monday, with Boeing (BA), Airbus (EADSF), Embraer (EMBJ) and other industry leaders expected to announce aircraft orders and showcase new technologies. The event has historically generated a wave of commercial aviation and defense headlines.

And San Diego Comic-Con kicks off Thursday, with Disney (DIS), Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), and Apple (AAPL) among the media companies expected to showcase upcoming films and streaming content. While the event caters to fans, major franchise announcements and trailer debuts can also influence sentiment around entertainment stocks.

Analysis
Biotechnology is once again taking center stage as breakthrough therapies, rising acquisition activity, and improving commercial success reshape the investment landscape. While volatility remains a defining characteristic of the sector, investors are increasingly finding opportunities in companies with proven science, strong execution, and meaningful long-term growth potential.

Jonathan Faison recently joined Seeking Alpha's Rena Sherbill to discuss how investors can navigate the biotechnology sector while managing risk. View the full podcast replay here.

Here’s a summary of the podcast:

Faison states that rather than chasing cash-burning, early-stage companies, he advocates focusing on fundamentally strong businesses with clear paths to commercialization, durable revenue growth, and attractive acquisition potential. He believes today's biotech rally is being driven by robust M&A activity and improving fundamentals, rather than the speculative IPO boom seen in previous cycles. Investors should prioritize companies with differentiated therapies, limited competitive pressure, and long-lasting patent protection.

Faison also emphasizes the importance of patience and disciplined investing, limiting trading activity and using short-term market pullbacks to build positions in high-conviction names instead of chasing momentum. For portfolio construction, he recommends a "box-and-one" approach: pairing a diversified biotech ETF, such as XBI, with a concentrated basket of three to five carefully researched stocks. This strategy provides broad sector exposure while allowing investors to benefit from the long-term upside of select biotech companies with the strongest commercial and acquisition potential.
